New YWCA gyrls after school program

TechGYRLS will provide an environment for girls to become interested in and empowered by technology. Individual and group projects will help develop communication, critical thinking, time management, and presentation skills.

TechGYRLS clubs focus on:

  • introducing girls ages 9-12 to innovative curriculum such as Microworlds software and Lego Dacta robotics construction kits under the guidance of women mentors.
  • exposing girls to successful professional women in business and technology fields.
  • empowering girls to participate in individual and group decision-making and planning.
  • improving girls self-confidence and enhancing overall self-esteem.

The YWCA of the USA launched the YWCA TechGYRLS in 1997 to create opportunities for under served girls to explore the latest technologies in a nurturing, girls only environment. The program encourages girls to delve into computer animation and robotics technologies.
