Myth:   Caring for elder loved ones at home is always best option for the family.

Fact:    Most older persons with long-term care needs—65%—rely exclusively on family and friends to provide assistance. The strain on caregivers is undeniable. Researchers have found that caregivers reported chronic medical conditions at nearly twice the rate of non-caregivers.

For participants, ADS is a co-ed program offering:  

• Peer support and socialization in a homelike environment  

• Stimulating activities to help maintain the present level of functioning as long as possible

•  Breakfast, hot lunch, snacks

• Intergenerational activities with YW Children’s Center such as storytelling, arts and crafts

For caregivers, ADS offers:  

• Respite to caregivers responsible for an older adult who cannot be left alone yet does not require 24-hour nursing care 

• Support, educational materials, and greater peace of mind
